Mononucleosis 2 Essay Mononucleosis is an ailment brought about by the Epstein-Barr infection (EBV), which is an individual from the herpes family. The herpes family likewise incorporates infections that cause mouth blisters, chicken pox, genital herpes, and birth absconds (7). Mono, short for mononucleosis (3) gets its name from the way that it causes a people white platelets to get twisted, so they have just a single core (getting mononuclear) rather than the typical separated core.; (3)The first records of mono are credited to Filatov and Pfeiffer who around the finish of the nineteenth century portrayed and ailment known as Drusenfieber or glandular fever which happened in family episodes. In any case, the foundation of mono is given to Sprunt and Evans. In 1921 they called attention to the mononuclear lymphocytosis that was available in every patient they treated. After two years, Downey and McKinaly gave more subtleties of the lymphocytes as a marker that prompted the malady. (6)The thought of EBV b eing associated with mono happened in 1958 by Burkitt. There were a few cases in Africa of little youngsters having tumors in their jaw and kicking the bucket in any event, when the tumor was expelled. He later discovered that the patients were originating from territories exceptionally invaded with mosquitoes, so they calculated that the mosquitoes were connected. The mosquitoes were conveying an infection in the herpes family, which was later called Epstein-Barr infection. This infection was later uncovered to be connected with mono. (6)Anyone can get mono however it is generally regular in teenagers and youthful grown-ups, for the most part secondary school and undergrads. Youngsters who are tainted with EBV when they are extremely youthful can produce antibodies against the infection. In the event that a people body doesn't have EBV as of now they will undoubtedly get the infection later in their life and have the option to construct these antibodies. Just a limited quantity of teenagers and youthful grown-ups really get mono since they have just been presented to EBV at a more youthful age. (7)Mono ordinarily happens in females between the ages of 15 to 16 years, and guys between the ages of 18 to 23 years (4). Individuals consider it the kissing sickness; because of the way that it is spread through close contact and salivation (2). Drinking after somebody, or eating after the person in question can likewise contract mono (2). In the United States in excess of 100,000 instances of mono are analyzed every year (7). The lymph framework conveys remote trespassers like EBV to unique tissues where malady battling white platelets called lymphocytes get a move on.; However EBV just taints the B cells that produce antibodies. During mono one out of each ten B cells gets atypical.; The T cells in the body at that point go get the B cells tainte d and that is the thing that causes the body to feel exhausted and debilitated is the point at which it is battling its own phones. The lymph hubs where the body is assaulting itself, for example, the tonsils become excited, causing manifestations, for example, an irritated throat. In the end the T cells have carried out their responsibility and the body is back leveled out, yet there are as yet contaminated cells making mono backslide and set aside a long effort to recoup from. In any case, it is curiously for mono to happen more than once in a people lifetime. (7)The side effects for mono incorporate sore throat, fever, cerebral pain, loss of hunger, extraordinary weariness, in some cases a measles-like rash, jaundice, or the spleen may amplify and there is the chance of a crack. These manifestations are regular for other ailment, for example, the basic cold or strep throat. Blood tests are the best way to see whether somebody is contaminated with mono because of the strange white platelets. (2)Although there is no particular treatment or medication for mono the best thing is to simply rest (3). Drinking a lot of liquids helps additionally (3). You can take torment relievers, for example, acetaminophen, which is Tylenol and others like it, yet never take ibuprofen (3). Taking anti-inflamatory medicine while having a viral disease can prompt another genuine condition called Reyes disorder (3). While having mono, an individual should confine their exercises, for example, sports and activities (7). The Illness can last from about fourteen days and in the serious cases, months (1). There is no certain method to forestall mono since it is so exceptionally infectious and there are no antibodies for it. Clearly an individual ought to evade contact with any individual who is contaminated with mono. An individual with AIDS, and transplant beneficiaries should be extra cautious since contracting EBV can prompt malignant growth. (7)EBV can prompt different Illnesses ot her than mono. Burkitts lymphoma patients as a rule have high antibodies of EBV (6). This illness includes tumors in the throat and jaw territory because of EBV (6). There are likewise hints of EBV genome in examples from nasopharyngeal carcinoma (6). Nasopharynegeal carcinoma is malignant growth of the nose and throat and EBV is found in practically the entirety of the tumors (7). Hodgkins malady is potentially connected with EBV on account of the growing of lymph hubs in the neck, armpits, or crotch, and comparative manifestations of mono (7). EBV could be connected with Sjogrens disorder, which is an incessant immune system infection where the body assaults its own tissues (7). EBV could be included on the grounds that an EBV disease of the salivary organs initiates the T cells to the tainted cells and to other glandular cells (7). In spite of the fact that EBV is connected to numerous different maladies and could cause malignant growth, there is no proof that everybody with EBV antibodies will get malignancy or another lethal infection (7). .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .postImageUrl , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .focused content territory { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:hover , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:visited , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:active { border:0!important; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; progress: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:active , .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:hover { murkiness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: rel ative; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: intense; line-stature: 26px; moz-fringe span: 3px; content adjust: focus; content embellishment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u3a4ccddfb3f6a03506b3586778978ed7:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Corporate Wellness Programs Essay At this moment there is no immunization for EBV or mono, however researchers are taking a shot at it (7). Unions Essays - Labour Relations, Economic History Of Canada

Associations P.1 Associations are gatherings of working individuals who join to converse with businesses about wages and states of work rather than laborers conversing with bosses on an individual basis.1 Because they represent everyone, associations can show signs of improvement bargain for every specialist than one representative could by haggling with the business. As found in the short film WHY UNIONS?, non-unionized laborers discusses the uncalled for treatment they involvement with the work place. Through aggregate activity, laborers shaped associations so they could have a voice in choosing compensation, hours, working conditions and managing the numerous issues emerges in the work environment. Associations are not simply associations attempting to get more dollars and pennies or better working conditions for individuals who hold association cards. Individuals who detest the advantages of association security get benefits as well. The work development was in the front line of the battles f or general medicinal services, for government funded instruction, for least wages, occasions and business conditions.2 1 D. Martin, Form War To Peace, Canadian Labor Congress, Quebec, 1991, P.17 2 Notes On Unions, Canadian Labor Congress, Quebec, 1992, P.1 P.2 UNION NOWADAYS Associations resemble organizations: their prosperity relies on pulling in and holding purchasers (new individuals). As of late, one of the serious issues looked by the association development is that couple of Canadians comprehend what administrations associations come into public.3 people in general likewise don't have the foggiest idea about the association is additionally helping Canada in different pieces of territories, for example, economy, and so on. The open believe that the main opportunity associations come into the open's eye is because of strike or withdrawal of administrations. This is a result of the dazzled strikes held by the association laborers. The important one would be the strike held by the Toronto Transit Commission laborers back in September 1991. The absence of transportation brought about bothers among the general population. The Canadian open gets angry with struggle. The strikes cause general society to disregard the commitments of asso ciations in different regions. From a promoting point of view, the association development has situated itself like the atomic business - it gets consideration just when it is going to explode, dissolve or leak.4 Five significant requirements for association developments are: 3 Alistair Davidson and Ian Mckinnon, Associations need to examine advertising, The Globe and Mail, May 8 1984, Business area, P.8 4 D. The association development has assumed a significant job in the past in the arrangement of new organizations, for example, credit associations. The Affordable Health Care Act Healthcare Reform Policy By Obama - 1100 Words

The Affordable Health Care Act: Healthcare Reform Policy By Obama (Research Paper Sample) Content: The Affordable Health Care Act Student Name Institution Instructor Date The Affordable Health Care Act The Affordable Care Act is an American healthcare reform policy signed into law by president Obama on March 23, 2010. The policy seeks to facilitate patient protection as well as provide affordable healthcare services to all American citizens. As such, the achievement of efficient health security goes along with the improvisation of comprehensive health insurance reforms that will include the minors and the marginalized in the society (Furlow, 2015). The main objectives of the Affordable Care Act aimed at expanding the patient coverage, decline the healthcare costs amongst the patients, create more options as well as foster for efficiencies and quality of care for all the citizens of America. It is also critical to note that contrary to the past times, the policy entitles the Insurance companies to accountability for the covers offered to patients. Under the Affordable Care Act, there are two pieces of legislation, which share common objectives. The first legislation is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148). The first piece offers protection to the patients by ensuring that all are inclusive in insurance cover that is to expand the cover to the poor and the marginalized (Furlow, 2015). The second and most crucial piece that form part of the Affordable Care Act is the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152) which extends the Medicaid coverage to thousands and millions of deprived Americans who cannot afford to take the insurance covers for their health. Again, the act contributes immensely towards improving the Medicaid services as well as making better the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The Effect of Affordable Care Act Enactment on Federal State Relations The enactment of the Affordable Care Act can significantly affect the Federal State Relations. To start with, the Act will inflict new costs on state government budgets, thus making the policy to be more expensive for the federal states to afford considering the available funds (Mccarthy, 2014). In addition, the federal government will assume control health insurance regulation, the sector that was for quite a long time under the state authority. The management of the insurance by the federal government will homogenize the policy without considering the personal interests of the citizens better than the state, which covers smaller boundaries. Another effect of the Affordable act enactment on the federal states relation is that the implementation and provision of customer-friendly application processes will vary amongst states due to income strength. It is obvious that some states have different types of people such as those with higher incomes as well as those with low incomes who could wish to apply for the expanded Medicaid program (Furlow, 2015). The states with financial power shall be in good shape to meet the requirements but the rest will not afford to meet the requirements in time. Other states argue that the Act forces industry changes that over works the health professionals, thus creating dissatisfaction and withdraw of care providers. It is also critical to note that the Act will affect the federal state relations in that it will impose over 190 million additional paperwork hours each year as well as increase the expenditure on new administration personnel. The mentioned procedures will indeed increase the ex penditure on the states thus making it unfriendly and debatable. The reduction of payment and increase of the penalties by the Affordable Care Act is another effect of the new healthcare plan. Reduction of payment is likely to cause the insolvency by the healthcare facilitators thus causing a major threat of inaccessibility of the health cover to all American citizens who serve as the beneficiaries (Mccarthy, 2014). The last and most critical effect is that the Affordable Care Act aggravates the booming healthcare workface shortage in various states thus making it a challenge for various states to address the two issues (Furlow, 2015). Most Americans believe that the guarantee of accessibility and quality care is not possible, thus distrusting the state leadership and the government control I the health...

Analysis Of The Book Private Yankee Doodle - 1006 Words

6. Reviews: The book was first published by Martin in 1830 with the title A Narrative of Some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a Revolutionary Soldier, Interspersed with Anecdotes of Incidents That Occurred Within His Own Observation. In 1962, it was republished under the title Private Yankee Doodle, Being a Narrative of some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a Revolutionary Soldier. In 2001 it was republished again under the title A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier. The reviews I found were from those who have read the book. Here are just a few of what I found: Michael Mazza –â€Å"This book is a remarkable piece of early United States literature. It should be read by current military personnel, veterans advocates, students of history, and students of U.S. literature.† Lawrence Michael – â€Å"Amazingly readable narrative. Mr. Martin puts the reader into the worn rags and shoeless feet of the private soldier of the continental line of the War for American Independence.† Maureen Davis - â€Å"Great book depicting the true story of a young man that volunteered to fight for his country. Written with a dose of self humor. I enjoyed it front to back and recommend it to anyone interested in the life of a revolutionary war solider.† Connie Knowlton – â€Å"A very authentic account of life in the Colonial Army. The book needs to be read more than once to get the full impact of suffering and sacrifice but it is well worth a second reading.† 7. Romance Of Tristan And Iseult By Joseph Bedier And The...

Romance stories are often thought of as tales of physical affection and love. However, from the twelfth to the sixteenth century, romance stories fell under the genre of chivalric romance (Norton A23). Stories of chivalric romance have a distinct â€Å"tripartite structure of social integration, followed by disintegration†¦ [and] reintegration in a happy ending† and consist of â€Å"aristocratic social milieux† (A23). However, romances occurred long before the 12th century. For example, The Odyssey by Homer is an example romance involving â€Å"separation, testing and travel...and the premise of, a final homecoming and recognition† from centuries before the rise of chivalric romance (119). Stories such as The Romance of Tristan and Iseult by Joseph†¦show more content†¦For medieval readers, romance was the genre of choice and the subtlety this genre prompted a subcategory of romance necessitating questions related to love (Norton 11). Tristan and I solde are lovers bound together by the effects of the love potion, initially believed to be wine by Iseult, however what â€Å"she had found [was] not wine - but Passion and Joy most sharp, and Anguish without end, and Death† (Bà ©dier 38). Therefore, this book leads the reader to question if love is a product of a strong relationship or the result of actions and situations. For example, the love of Tristan and Iseult was a product of the love potion which caused Tristan and Iseult to â€Å"love each other with their every single sense and with their every thought, forever†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (37). Because the love of Tristan and Iseult does not have a traditional foundation, the love potion also causes the lovers to challenge traditions about love. For example, Tristan and Iseult consummate their love after drinking the love potion, which goes against traditions of chivalric love and more specifically courtly love (TVtropes courtly love). Additionally, both Tristan and Iseult ar e willing to give up privileges in order to live together and love each other. While speaking to Ogrin, a hermit that often represents traditional catholic values, Tristan says that he â€Å"would rather beg my life long and live of roots and herbs with Iseult than, lacking her, be king of a wide

The book contains suspense and tension between the colored and whites during the 1930’s. Even though the book is unique and strong in its own way, people debate about whether the book must be required reading. There are many viewpoints about the book; some negative and some positive. However, there are many reasons why the sixth grade should read Milred D. Taylor’s powerful novel. Milred D. Taylor’s novel is a novel that students will learn lessons and gain knowledge from. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry has three main reasons why it should be required reading for all sixth graders. Students will learn how to treat all people fairly, no matter how are like. Lillian Jean, a white girl, insults Cassie in Strawberry by saying, â€Å"You can’t watch where you going, get in the road. Students also need to know about how America is like in the 1930’s and how other people treat the colored. White men burn John Henry which affects his body, and makes him unable to speak. â€Å"But them men dragged him [John Henry] and Beacon both outa that house, and when old man Berry tried to stop it, they lit him afire with them boys. †(40) Students need to know the feelings that the colored people have and how hard they try to gain and earn their freedom. Cassie thinks it is unfair that she has to apologize to Lillian Jean when she did not harm her. ‘â€Å"But, Mama, it ain’t fair. I didn’t do nothin’ to that confounded Lillian Jean. How come Mr. Simms went and pushed me like he did? †Ã¢â‚¬â„¢(126) Mr. Morrison’s parents try hard to fight for their freedom, while the white men hurt their family during Mr. Morrison’s childhood. â€Å"But my [Mr. Morrison’s] mama and daddy they loved each other and they loved us children, and that Christmas they fought them demons out of hell like avenging angels of the Lord. †(149-150) There is an opposing viewpoint, however. Many believe that they are better just by their religion, culture, or looks. â€Å"Because [he is] [Mr. Simms] one of those people who has to believe that white people are better than black people to make himself feel big. † Some whites do not consider the colored people’s feelings, make them slaves, and treat the colored horribly just for their own benefit. â€Å"Well, Cassie, during slavery there was some farms that mated folks like animals to produce more slaves. Breeding slaves brought a lot of money for them slave owners, ‘specially after the government said they couldn’t bring no more slaves from Africa, and they produced all kinds of slaves to sell on the block. (149)They treat the colored like â€Å"[they] warn’t nothing to them. †(149)The whites demand respect from the colored, â€Å"but what [they] give them is not respect but fear. †(129) Although the opponents are against the debate and claim that the book should not be required reading, there is still a strong viewpoint(the â€Å"for† side) that thinks the book should be read. The opposing viewpoint has reasons that are unfair and partial to a race. The viewpoint that is for the debate has three strong reasons that can teach students the history of whites and colored. The book can give them many pieces of knowledge and teach them lessons that they might have not learned yet. It might influence their life and the way they think about other people. The opposing viewpoint might not learn or know the experience of suffering and facing hardships like the colored has. Those students might not understand how hard life is for the slaves during slavery days or how badly the owners treat their slaves. Overall, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a book with pride, strength, and respect for humanity that should be read by all of the sixth graders.

On a personal level I can really relate to this topic because I have been around it for all of my life I have friends and family that have been the the justice system for some time. The Criminalist field is a hard one to do cause of the many different people that you come into contact with all the way from criminals to family members of the victims to sometimes the victims themselves. The is a saying that goes around my work that say if you are dumb enough to know that dna can and will convict you, so if you commit a crime just remember if you think you got rid of evidence you may have to the naked eye, but to a criminalist you have given us a present of evidence that could and probably will be the end for you. In a couple of cases that I worked on in the past I have had a single mother of 5 that had been at the wrong place at the wrong time, she was charged with an accessory to murder when the truth was that she didn’t even know the victim in the case and the her prints were not on any of the evidence that was found at the scene of where the crime took place. The crime lab that I work for did everything that we could do according to the law, and the family of the victim was very upset with the fact that she was placed at the scene of the crime and yet her fingerprints were not on any of the evidence, and so they thought that we were taking side with her and making the evidence follow how we thought the case should be solved. The family of victim tried to sue us for letting a murder go free, and not bring justice to their family for the daughter’s death. When all we did was follow the evidence in accordance with law. The second case involved a man who thought that he was smarter than the criminalist on the case because he thought that by cleaning up after the crime that he had removed any and all the evidence that we could not place him at the scene but he didn’t know the many different ways that we used to gather the evidence against him the lead to him being charged and ultimately being convict of rape. He told the judge that we placed is DNA at the scene of the crime. When the DNA evidence was not saliva which is what we gathered from him but was his blood because the victim in this case cut him with her fingernails. In conclusion people who are victims of crimes or families of those who are no longer with us need to understand that when evidence is gathered at a scene it is gathered it’s what the evidence says about how all the evidence comes together to achieve one final result in any case. Back to my thesis statement that said Justice is a fair end result to cases that are difficult to solve in the begging of any case, and also that no matter the outcome that people have in a case that the true criminal is convicted of the crime that they really [really is a weak word meaning not imaginary. Use truly or another, clearer word] did commit and will have the proper sentence for the nature of their crimes. â€Å"Consider the problem from the point of view of evil, evil being almost always pleasures true and major charm; considered thus, the crime must appear greater when perpetrated upon a being of your identical sort than when inflicted upon one which is not, and this once establish ed, the delight automatically doubles.† (De Salis, N.D). Finally Justice means that the people who are truly innocence will get the fair justice that they all deserve, and the criminals will get the jail time that they deserve to get. Legal System of The United States Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Legal System of The United States - Essay Example Each state government within the US is independent in governing its people. Presently, there are 50 US states which are self-governing and make their own decisions. Federalism is quite domineering in reference to the America’s legal system because the Constitution defines the rights and obligations of each individual state in direct relation the federal government. Basically, the purpose of this essay is to augment this argument that the legal system of America cannot be explicated without discussing federalism because both are closely connected. The following discussion will scrutinize many impacts executed by federalism on the US legal system. There is huge federal involvement in many justice functions that are left to be performed by the national and state governments. This federal involvement in the justice and law enforcement area has not always been so conspicuous throughout the US history as it is now. Now, the federal government regularly contributes to assisting the a dministration in control of the Department of Justice and makes a number of critically important recommendations. It is suggested that the greatest involvement of federalism in law enforcement that was ever witnessed in the US history was during the Nixon Administration (Meese). It was under the governance of late US President Nixon that federalism really picked momentum and gained confidence in the actual functioning process of law enforcement. Prior to the Nixon rule, there was hardly any noticeable presence of federalism, but following that and in every successive governing period the Congress is seen to be considerably influenced by this particular political ideology. While many potential benefits are offered by federal involvement in crime control and justice department, there are also some disadvantages. Critics see many problems attached to federalism playing a potential role in local crime control in each state and it is even thought that the underlying motives of federal in volvement can be unauthentic and flawed. The influence inflicted by federalism on local law enforcement agencies is undeniable, but it cannot always be justified or considered necessary. It is one of the not so positive impacts produced by federalism on the legal system of the US that whenever the Congress perceives any law or penalty to be politically outstanding and practical, it decides to sign it and implement it in the state even when it is not necessary and regardless of the nature of the law. The bedrock of the federal system is constructed by effective distribution of control between the national and state governments (Federalism Overview). The legal system in the US is heavily inspired by the political philosophy of federalism which explains why all 50 self-governing states in the US have the power to define their own standards which may not be similar to those of the federal government. Both national and state governments are in charge of devising very important national p olicies which have huge repercussions for the public. But, there is a division of control between the central government and each of the 50 states and the roots of this division are entrenched in federalism. There is such heavy involvement of federalism now in every legal area and national or local policies that the legal system of the US cannot be studied or assessed now in separation from federalism because they are not separate subjects now but have blended into one over time. It is

Textual Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Textual Analysis - Essay Example These myths are seen as the past of each gender, male and female. In her argument, she describes males as dominant over women. Men always try to be powerful than women by using some myths, while, in reality, this is not true. Beauvoir seeks to show that the myths that talk about women are indeed false and that in, reality, these women are different. These myths are developed because men are trying to be dominant over women, but in the modern world, this is not the case. Women are termed as equal to men. While the myths of men have indicated that males have control over females, this is not true today, and this is because things have changed and men no longer have control over women. Everything in today’s society is equal, and the myths that exist are no longer recognized, and they are far forgotten (Beauvoir 785). According to the version of Raines (72), men are powerful creatures in society, and they always see themselves as violent, virile and vital people. This is depicted in the character O’ Shaughnessy. This character sees him in front of a saloon with a gun, and as a frontier, he uses his skills of bullfighting to impress the blacks. In her argument, Raines says that the character is performing some rituals, by taking advantage of the blond Irish appearance. By so doing, he is revealing his strong place in society as that of a domineering male character. In the end, he is reduced to the status of a woman by his successful challenger who uses a knife to carve labium marjoram on his cheek. According to Raines the characters sex life has all the qualities of a fighter at war. This is further explained by the encounter O’ Shaughnessy has with Denise. The two are described as making love as fighters with physical violence and physical abuse. O’ Shaughnessy sees Denise as masculine in appearance and behavior. She is given the qualities of a kind lean force with muscles of a young boy who is aggressive (Raines 72). Raines further desc ribes the character as one who admires the qualities that Denise has like; pride, intelligence, one with the force of will and an independent individual. He further wishes to have these qualities because he believes by that he can acquire them by defeating Denise and turning her into a more passive and submissive woman. Raines further argues that O’Shaughnessy sees himself as a hero (73). He sees his sexual dominance as a force that is revitalizing and one which allows him to successfully, win in all the situations of life. He is seen quoting his penis as the avenger (73) because it serves as a symbol of weapon in the war. Raines continues her argument that, in a, sexiest society, the sexual power is the most valuable item in the social and cultural power. After the encounter with Denise, O’ Shaughnessy is portraying the quality of dominance. In that, he says he must make Denise dependent on him (73) by bringing her to her first orgasm. He believes this will make him s ure of victory at last. He is quite startled by Denise when she proves that she is a skillful opponent. Denise reveals to him that he has a feminine side that he does not know. This is because O’ Shaughnessy action in mouth love was passionate. He is wounded by these words, and he allows the female in him to betray his victory and finally Denise becomes a victor (Raines 73). However, O’Shaughnessy is quick to make excuses that would justify his failure to win. He states that Denise had won because she told the truth and

The Sun Also Rises :: essays research papers

The Sun Also Rises [I cannot express to you how glad I am that I am taking this class. I am thoroughly enjoying Hemingway. The Sun Also Rises is one of the best books I've read in quite a long time. For a while there, I was, for God knows what reason, taking Physics and Chemistry and Biology. It is really an adventure to be back with books and words and reading. I am also amazed that I never could read more of Him when it wasn't an assignment. And how is it that when I am told to write "a 3-5 page essay" I can only come through with two-and-a-half, but a "one-page response" always wants to be twenty pages long?] I finished reading SAR around ten o'clock tonight. I could have taken it all in one big gulp when I began a week ago, but I couldn't do that. It wanted me to bring it out slowly, so I often found myself reading five or ten pages and laying it aside to absorb without engulfing. A man gets used to reading Star Wars and pulp fiction and New York Times Bestsellers and forgets what literature is until it slaps him in the face. This book was written, not churned out or word-processed. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I never noticed it until it was brought up in class, maybe because it wasn't a point for me in In Our Time, but He doesn't often enough credit quotations with, ",he said," or, ",said Brett," or, ",Bill replied." In SAR it stood and called attention to itself. I wasn't particularly bothered by His not telling me who said what, but it was very...pointed. I first noticed around the hundredth page or so. Then I realized I couldn't keep track of who was speaking. By not dwelling on it, though, sort of (hate to say this) accepting it, I managed to assign speech to whomever I felt was speaking. Gradually I came to enjoy it, in another plane of reading, figuring out from whom words were originating. To not notice it, as if it were one of those annoying 3-D posters that you can't see until you make a concerted effort not to try and see, became simple - much like those 3-D pictures are once you know what not to look for. (I abhor ending sentences with prepositions...) His not telling was heightening to the story. It made things come even more alive. As a conversation that you're hearing at a nearby table in a restaurant, the exchanges flowed, with me as a more passive reader than in a story written to be read

Ccot Rome 100-600 C.E. Essay

Between 100 and 600 C.E., Rome underwent significant cultural and political changes. Culturally, the empires religious beliefs had changed, resulting in the predominance of Christianity. Politically, Rome’s economy divided. As for continuities, paterfamilias and women’s right remained the same throughout the time period. Religion was a large part of the roman culture, and made a major change to Christianity. When Rome was still n early empire, Paganism, where there was a belief in multiple gods, was the main religion. Initially the poor were the first to switch to Christianity, which later spread to the higher classes of society. The religion was rejected in 100 C.E., but Constantine legalized it in 313 C.E. The Roman Empire was quickly enveloped by Christianity and took over the other religions. A major political change was the division of the once united Roman Empire into the Byzantium to the East, and Rome remaining in the West. Rome was so massive that under one ruler, it was impossible to make everyone happy, which led to dividing the empire. Because of economic and leadership issues, Germanic tribes tried to take over the land to the east and west. Rome had to split its force to fight them, ultimately adding to the chaos that divided the empire. Women’s right had remained constant throughout the time period. Unlike in China and India women, mainly of the upper class, would have a larger participation in business and work. Woman were able to attend schooling together or similar to men at public schools, and attended religious and social events. Paterfamilias was another continuity in 100 to 600 C.E. Rome. The male father had complete control over his family, and his children’s full lives. This included occupations, spouses, possessions, he could even legally kill them.

The Hitler Youth was a paramilitary organization formed in 1926. It gave kids excitement, adventure and new heroes to idolize. Hitler admired young kids drive, energy and strong love for Germany. All this early organization was done because Hitler realized that, if and when he finally managed to over throw the Weimar government, we would need to have something ready to take its place immediately.† After the HJ became the sole Nazi youth group, Hitler and Gruber stressed the importance of loyalty to the Reich and the ideologies for the Aryan race. In October of 1936 the Hitler made Hitler youth a mandatory membership, conscripted all German boys aged ten into the HJ as well. The laws required boys age ten and over to join but there were younger boys as little as 6 years old fighting to join the Jungvolk, which was the voluntary HJ. The young boys wanted to be a part of a group and fit in, and most of all wanted to wear a uniform. Alfons Heck described his infatuation with the HJ uniforms, comparing it to being part of a sports team and having pride in wearing your own teams’ jersey. Education for the HJ changed drastically during the years after Hitler became power, leading into the war. No longer were math, science and literature the focus in grammar school. High Education And Intellectual Property - 1038 Words

Higher education and intellectual property go hand in hand but not always easily. With the development of sophisticated online learning systems, copyright has become a larger and more complicated issue. Faculty members struggle to keep up with the demands of providing scholarly materials to their students while at the same time respecting the rights of the author. This article focuses on the faculty-created resources caught up in this intellectual storm, and attempts to clarify the issues by first introducing us to copyright law in a face to face classroom and an online one. In other cases, many faculty members will contribute to the package over time, thus diluting the authorship. This leaves the question of ownership woefully under-defined. Faculty Survey. Even though working in groups at times can be very frustrating because of a group member not doing they part of an assignment. If assignment is not complete as a group then the grade average for the assignment will suffer because of one student not doing their part. San Jose Museum Of Art Essay Example For Students

San Jose Museum Of Art Essay The San Jose Museum of Art is nicely decorated and furnished museum with many different types of art. I decided to start out by looking at some of the various paintings. There were many different kinds, including traditional oil paintings on canvas as well as ordinary paper. One that stood out in my mind was Desert Restaurant by John Register. Its a painting of the inside of a diner sitting in the middle of an open desert. The picture gives an eerie sense of isolation. One sculpture that I remember was one by Oliver Jackson, which is untitled. The sculpture appears to be a figure of a human squatting down. The sculpture is made out of Steel, Marble, and Crayon. Besides these, there were many other interesting pieces of art in the Museum including the unique bright chandeliers made of blown glass. I read an article in an old issue of Art in America about the lack of interest many young Americans show toward art in recent years. The article went on to explain how museum attendance was down in most museums compared to 20 years ago. Their main reasoning for this was the basic arguments of the advances in other forms of technology such as Television and computers that draw the attention of young ones away from traditional arts such as museums and live plays. The article went on to say that plays have become more for the highly sophisticated and less for the average person. The average person views a live play as any normal television show and doesnt recognize the culture aspect attached to it. (Art in America, Fading Culture 1991, 12-14) The San Jose Museum of Art held a lot of interesting types of art, but I think I can understand what the article I read in Art in America was saying. Art has not changed much over time. Art takes a higher level of appreciation and educational level to be truly understood and enjoyed. To many this takes more work and time than they would like to invest, especially while there are other forms of entertainment that are cheaper and faster. Reading the article helps the reader to see the side of the more sophisticated art lover despite most being on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Privatization in India free essay sample

Ram Mohan Visiting Faculty, Finance and Accounting Area Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, India Abstract The proposed research is intended to survey the process of privatization in India and assess its impact on the Indian economy. The central issue we will address is the impact of privatization that has taken place so far on profitability and performance of PSUs. Going beyond this, we will attempt to understand what explains the impact of privatization on performance. Is it the use of market power by oligopolistic firms whose pricing power had been constrained under government ownership ? Is performance bought at the expense of labour through extensive layoffs so that what we see is essentially a transfer from workers to shareholders ? Or are we confusing the impact of privatization with the more generalised impact of deregulation in the economy, which in itself could spur efficiency ? The research output will comprise the following: 1. A survey of the literature on privatization, particularly with respect to less developed countries. We will write a custom essay sample on Privatization in India or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page 2. A review of the role of the public sector in the Indian economy, and the process of economic liberalization and privatization in India upto this point. 3. Impact of privatization on firm performance. 4. Explanation for the impact of privatization 5. Assessment of mechanisms of corporate governance in India. -2- I. Background: privatization in theory and practice A great wave of privatization has swept the world in the past two decades, embracing the industrial economies, the transition economies of East Europe and large parts of the less developed world, and it continues to roll on. It is interesting, however, that its basis in theory was somewhat shaky to start with. Moreover, a sizable enough body of empirical evidence, on which hypotheses about its impact could be tested, became available only several years down the road. So much of the initial impetus to privatization entailed a leap in faith, and, as happens all too often in the development of knowledge, attempts to explain its impact have followed on the heels of widespread existing practice. Privatization In india free essay sample Privatisation, also spelled privatization, may have several meanings. Primarily, it is the process of transferring ownership of a business, enterprise, agency, public service, or public property from the public sector (a government) to the private sector, either to a business that operates for a profit or to a nonprofit organization. It may also mean government outsourcing of services or functions to private firms, e. g. revenue collection, law enforcement, and prison management. Privatization has also been used to describe two unrelated transactions. The first is the buying of all outstanding shares of a publicly traded company by a single entity, making the company privately owned. This is often described as private equity. The second is a demutualization of a mutual organization or cooperative to form a joint-stock company ? Definition of Privatization 1) The transfer of ownership of property or businesses from a government to a privately owned entity. 2) The transition from a publicly traded and owned company to a company which is privately owned and no longer trades publicly on a stock exchange. We will write a custom essay sample on Privatization In india or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When a publicly traded company becomes private, investors can no longer purchase a stake in that company. 3)The process in which a publicly-traded company is taken over by a few people is also called privatization. The stock of the company is no longer traded in the stock market and the general public is barred from holding stake in such a company. EXAMPLE: If an individual or organization purchases all the stock in a publicly-traded company, that effectively makes it private, so that process is sometimes described as privatization. However, in contrast to the primary understanding of privatization, the company in question is in the private sector to begin with and remains there. Features of Privatization Espousing market principles by public policy makers has evolved as one of the prominent characteristics of the contemporary public enterprise management which encompasses privatization as a primary facet. Privatization of State- owned enterprises has developed as a critical tool for economic policies pertaining to progress and development of developing countries. One of the prominent feature of privatization is the enhanced competitive characteristics it provides to the enterprises which prove to be fruitful for the business as well as the country. However, privatization contracts are greatly influenced by merger variables and even global issues and are structured on the basis of manipulation of the government and the private players along with the administering jurisdiction.
